Club Unwired -Updates

After competing with teams all over India in Kshitij and Techfest,it's time to move on.Here's a rough sketch of what we'll be involved in the coming months:

Long term goals:
Club Unwired's immediate long term goal is to compete in BAJA SAE conducted by SAE in January 2010.Read about it here.
Club Unwired is also going to participate in Aero Design again conducted by SAE,which has the who's who of the aerospace industry(such as Lockheed Martin,NASA) as the sponsors.Click here for more info.

Coming Soon:

We plan to conduct a formal inaugration of the club in the NITC campus with an air show (of our own RC Electric Glider which we took to Techfest) and a star gazing night. Video conferences and talks are also on the cards.

On the R/C front,we plan to construct a R/C Car,work for which has already begun.

Club Unwired also plans to start a very own Community Radio (CR) Station for the college. The formalities are being sorted out.

NITC ians can also expect regular seminars on fun technical topics to provide a respite from the monotony of regular classes. The seminars will be held by members of Club Unwired and on a weekly basis.

Star parties - Sail through the universe with Astro Unwired,Club Unwired's astro community.

Tons of activity planned for the year ahead,so don't miss out on any of the action.Stay tuned.More updates soon.

PS:
We are currently seeking sponsorship for club activities. We have approached several companies (such as NAL,HAL etc) and are happy to say that we received a positive response from them.Sponsors are welcome :)

Astro- Unwired

Apart from radio controlled gadgets and aerodynamics, the members of Club Unwired possess a passion for viewing the heavens above. Equipped with a D-75 reflector telescope we are able to obtain breathtaking views of the moon and a good close up of the starry sky. 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy and we definitely don't want to miss out. As a start here are some inspiring images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. Enjoy!

The Large Cloud of Magellan

A nebula popularily known as Shapeless 171

Club Unwired-Small Beginnings

Club Unwired is basically a bunch of enthusiastic guys who are into radio controlled (RC) gizmos("Unwired"-Enlish for without wires).Still in its budding stage,Club Unwired is currently made up of 15 guys(2nd and 3rd years) from NITC.The brain-child of NIT C's current 3rd years,we aspire to revive the once active(now non existent) aeromodelling club in NITC.
We are currently working on radio controlled gliders,so as to take part in IIT B's Techfest and IIT Kharagpur's Kshitij. The following few posts will lay out details of our progress with regard to these gliders.
After glory in these 2 events,we plan to expand into RC Cars,Star gazing and many other interesting, technical fields. We also plan to recruit more members into our club after these events.

First Flight-Club Unwired

“The early bird catches the worm” or so they say. There were , however a group of them outside the college mini-canteen headed on their way , not to catch a worm but to just fly. With barely four to six hours sleep, no coffee, no tea, no snacks , there was nothing to curb the enthusiasm of club Unwired out to test their newest creation, like a bunch of kids hyped about a new toy they just couldn’t wait to try out. With nothing to slow them the group trotted on to the twelfth mile ground carrying their aircraft. The weather was perfect for an early morning jog but that wasn’t what they were thinking. They scanned the ground until they chose the perfect spot in the nearby grain field to fly the plane. There was no one about except them and a few farmers. With the controls in hand , they made a few last minute checks and adjustments, while adrenaline pumped through them. When they were ready, they could hardly wait and so one of them took the plane and got into position for its launch. As they started the countdown, even one of the farmers stopped to watch them out of curiosity. The plane was launched and they all watched thrilled. It seemed short-lived however when the plane dived downwards and their hearts stopped beating. But to their delight it went straight back up and circled the group. It was brief however as the plane crash landed after a successful maiden flight. The team was delighted that their efforts were finally paying off. The plane flew for a total of 9 seconds, a small but great start for the team who will be entering it for IIT Bombay’s Techfest later this January. It was a pumped up and ever so confident group that returned to the mini-canteen for a well deserved breakfast.
